German cruiser Prinz Eitel Fried rich must leave port or be interned

Newport News Virginia March 11 1914 Collector Norman Hamilton served notice on Captain Thierichens of the Prinz Eitel Friedrich giving 24 hours to depart or face internment. Hamilton seeks the Frye papers and questions sailors about the January 27 sinking of the American bark William P Frye. Captain Thierichens withholds the original Frye papers while offering copies as the Navy weighs how long repairs will keep the vessel in port. The German embassy sent Captain Boy Ed to protect German interests as Washington conducts a formal inquiry into the incident.

Rejuvenation Event Sets Record For Local Lodge

The New Castle lodge of the Order of Jovians in Woodmen hall held a rejuvenation ceremony with five candidates initiated. A four round boxing match between two prominent members entertained attendees from several surrounding towns and refreshments followed.

Relative of Mrs C L Martin Dies in Ohio

Mrs C L Martin of North Jefferson street received word that her relative Strictland Holton died Wednesday night at 9 30 at his home in Niles Ohio. He was 60 and survived by his wife and four children Miss Maud in the Philippines Miss Goldie at home Richard and Strictland at home. Funeral services will be held at the family home in Niles Saturday.

Former Resident Concludes Visit from City

John Z. Street formerly of this city today concluded a month's visit to real relatives and departed for Browning Montana where he has been located for some time. Both Mr Street and Frank Shiner of this city are connected with the government reclamation service in which they have been most successful.

Tin plants close as workers paid after three days

All hot mills at the New Castle and Shenango tin plants of the American Sheet and Tinplate company closed down at 8:30 this morning after operating only three days this week. Former Laborer In Mills Here Dies In Battle In Europe

From 19 Maitland street the news is that Nick Puskash an Austrian former Carnegie steel mill worker died in Europe. A letter received yesterday said he was shot to death on the battlefield. Delinquent Tax Collector Mike Melcher reports many Austrians from the city have gone back to fight, with at least 200 to 500 believed to have left to join the war.

Hetzel Not Free To Return Here Yet

A detainer is lodged against Charles T. Hetzel after parole from Ft. Leavenworth. He will be brought to Pittsburg by a U S marshal for trial on two indictments charging mail frauds, likely next week. Mary King, involved in the frauds, completed a term in Miami County jail.

County Viaduct ProposalAdvances After Harrisburg conference

Attorney William McElwee representing the county commissioners returned from Harrisburg after meeting the governor and attorney general on the Gardner avenue viaduct plan. The board of public grounds and buildings delayed action, but promises to review the matter soon. New Castle Rubber Plant Nears Start May 1

Active work continues at the New Castle Rubber company plant in the Seventh ward as preparations proceed for operation about May 1. Attorneys Martin and Martin presented a petition to connect with a city storm sewer and disposal plans for wash water. The project includes machinery orders for tire production and foundations being laid, with initial focus on automobile tires and a plan for a major local industry. a deed transferring property from New Castle Steel and Iron to New Castle Rubber, for 95 900, has been recorded.

Waldron Jailed On Charge By His Wife

James F. Waldron living on the city’s outskirts was jailed by Alderman Ranney after a wife Daisy Waldron charged him with assault and battery and non-support. He received $1 and 15 days to jail for assault and battery and was committed to jail to await a hearing on non-support. Waldron has a 20 month old child and is said to have failed to provide for the family.

C L Horner of Elks Lodge No 69 was elected as delegate to the Grand Lodge meeting in Los Angeles this July with W J Uber as alternate. Officers for Lodge 69 were chosen for the coming year including H E Stevenson as exalted ruler and F E Gorby as secretary.
