A plan labeled Pochester Plan is scheduled to begin on Saturday near the Lindbergh Estate site. A gas explosion in a large purifying tank caused four fatalities and severely burned several workers, with determination of the blast cause still pending and others injured.
A massive explosion at the South Camden plant of New Jersey Public Service Company killed fourteen workers and injured four. Six bodies were recovered, five others remained trapped in a burning purifying tank, with nineteen workers in the tank at the time of the blast. Officials blamed the accident on an unspecified cause and launched an investigation.
The violent East Coast storm after three days begins to ease. Ships report distress and many vessels drift at sea while rail and bus travel halt as heavy snowdrifts isolate communities in New York, Pennsylvania, and New England.

In Rochester Pennsylvania on March 9 Mrs. Mary Humbert aged 96 died from shock after a gas explosion and fire swept the adjoining home of Romeo Scrusciolo. Scrusciolo’s house burned with an estimated loss of $15,000 as Humbert fled with her two children and later collapsed en route to hospital.
President Hoover phoned to check on the Lindbergh kidnapping search. Lindbergh, resting after distress from the loss of his child, was not awakened on Hoover's request.
A fire at Joseph Siege's department store in Point Marion Pennsylvania caused estimated losses above $50,000. Fire officials believe the blaze started from an overheated gas radiator.
An 870.2 ton Steamship Harburg is in a hopeless condition after a broken tail shaft, reported today southeast of Sable Island, Nova Scotia. The RCA Chatham wireless station relayed the SOS at 10:56 AM, noting nearby Steamship Vincent proceeding to assist.
A fire at the Derk Manufacturing Silk tapestry mill in Doylestown, discovered at 5 10 am, caused about 150000 in damage. About 50 workers were laid off, and nearby homes were at risk as officials warned the plant may close during repairs.

William A Irvin a vice president of United States Steel Corp was named president to succeed James A Farrell. He will assume office on April 19 upon Farrells retirement after a year on pension. Irvin has led U S Steels American Sheet and Tinplate Co since 1931 and has served in steel subsidiaries for 35 years.
