Districts shift property tax collection schedule in Lawrence County
Lawrence County school districts adopt a new tax collection calendar to meet a 1998 state law. The changes move the 2 percent discount, face value and 5 percent penalty periods up a month, with New Castle Area already on the new schedule. Deadlines now run July 1 to Aug 31 for the discount, Sept 1 to Oct 31 for face value, and Nov 1 to Dec 29 for penalties, as the last business day of the year. Taxes unpaid by Dec 29 go to the county tax claim bureau by Jan 15, 2001. 1999 taxes remain April 15. County commissioners previously shortened the discount period to end in May.
