Richmond Virginia March 5 Dr Richard G Miller 53 who admitted responsibility for the accidental chloroform passing of 18 year old Cleo Sprouse appeared more hopeful in jail after a brief visit from his wife He faces a possible first degree indictment as Commonwealth Attorney William Fife plans a special Albemarle county grand jury session to investigate the case and related lab reports while Miller seeks counsel and awaits punishment
In Philipsburg Pennsylvania police say Jennie Galley 40 bashed her two sleeping daughters with a hammer then calmly told neighbors of the killings as her husband and son worked in the mines. Victims Vcedinia 15 and Marie 5 died in their beds with clothes undisturbed. The mother showed signs of mental disturbance and was held pending authorities action.
Employe representatives from 18 Carnegie-Illinois Steel plants in the Pittsburgh Youngstown area ask William Green of the AFL to organize them to oppose John L. Lewis and his CIO for steel workers. They also scrap their old representation plan and form a four member grievance committee to negotiate with Benjamin F. Fairless, who recently recognized Lewis CIO and signed a one year contract.
Residents along Sheridan Avenue and Mercer Street complain that a lot has become a public dumping site for wagon loads of ashes and refuse. The sight and odor deterneighborhood pride as locals seek cleanup. A man staged a sit down protest in the Post Office Building over income tax questions. An error of $100 was noted in a local institution’s recent daily total with a search for the missing amount.

John W. Becker one of 11 defendants in the Commercial National Bank Bradford Pa shortage case won a ruling when Judge Gibson quashed the conspiracy count. The ruling removed the charge against Becker but left the conspiracy count against the other defendants intact in the 31st count.
The Lincoln highway between Greensburg and East McKeesport will close to through traffic from March 22 for widening to four lanes. The project costs about 1.5 million dollars and may last through the year with a detour routing motorists from Greensburg to the Harrison City road to Pitcairn.
F. H. Kahle was freed of all blame for the accidental death of six-year-old Ralph Gunsallus, who jumped from a wagon into Kahle’s truck. Gunsallus was the fifth highway fatality in Centre County within a month.

An investigation into the death of George Jackson 73 of Kennard Mercer county a WPA worker struck by a car driven by George Palmer near Adamsville was underway police said Jackson was crossing the road to reach the car of M P Gruber to go home when he was struck.
Lebanon Valley plant doors locked as CIO organized walkout sparks idle mill. J T Edmunds says the factory will remain shut to resolve wage differences after a strike by mechanical workers. About 2500 employees affected, with CIO planning picketing as talks resume March 10.
Pittsburgh March 5 P T Fagan president of District No 5 United Mine Workers says there has been no agreement or understanding with operators on a new wage contract after March 31. He notes negotiations continue and the conference is adjourned until Tuesday with sub committees to be named and no concessions offered yet.
New York March 5. Stock exchange memberships rose six thousand dollars in value today with the sale announced at $125,000. The upturn mirrors boom conditions in the market last week with prices at new highs since 1931 and trading activity the strongest in months.
In Los Angeles on March 4 the Academy named Louise Rainer and Paul Muni as the year’s greatest film stars at the ninth annual dinner. Rainer won the best actress award for The Great Ziegfeld while Muni received top actor honors for Louis Pasteur.
