Public housing for aged plan advances in Lawrence County
Final plans for 160 units of public housing for the elderly were shown to the Lawrence County Housing Authority. R Kay Thompson of W G Eckles Co displayed blueprints for a turnkey project bounded by W Moody Ave and Laurel Ave west of Wilmington Ave. Construction start hoped for April. Dietterle and Van Dusen Construction Co is the developer. The 10 story and four story wings will house 60 one bedroom apartments and 90 efficiencies with community rooms and offices. The authority weighs gas versus electricity with Columbia Gas of Pennsylvania and awarded a painting contract for exteriors at several sites with HUD approval anticipated. An annual dinner is set for April 3 at Troggio's Restaurant.

District renews coach contracts
The Latttel Area School Board renewed contracts with three district basketball coaches at a meeting last night. Leonard Rich, named as head football coach, also became eighth grade junior high basketball coach. Rich resigned as assistant baseball coach and Gary Reed was hired for that role. Also renewed were Dom Londa as head basketball coach and Don Nogay as junior varsity basketball coach. Judd Wetzel resigned as junior high basketball. The board discussed preliminary budget reports and urged attendance at an April 16 planning meeting at the Warrendale Holiday Inn. The next meeting is April 7.

ICC weighs Penn Central plan to drop two trains
The Interstate Commerce Commission is reviewing Penn Central's bid to discontinue two New York to St Louis passenger trains Nos 3 and 20. Protests from cities along the route have been received as the carrier says the services lose money. The ICC had ordered four months of operation starting Sept 27. A second plan to abandon would take effect March 20 unless an investigation is ordered.
