Two Lawrence County families welcomed newborn daughters on Leap Day. Allison Margaret Lough arrived at 6 34 am at Jameson Health System weighing 4 pounds 10 ounces and Jamielyn Liskooka weighed 7 pounds 6 ounces at St Francis Health and was 20 inches long. Obstetricians James Rowland and Serhatt Erzurum delivered the infants as Patty and Nancy adjusted to a Feb 29 birthday. The parents said the rare date makes their children especially blessed and plan celebrations around March 1 for some.

County to hire Olsen Engineering for planning services
Lawrence County commissioners plan to contract with Olsen Engineering and Associates of Butler for planning services. County environmental director Amy Jo Labi-Carando outlined the proposal at caucus with commissioners Burick and Fosnaught. Chairman DeCarbo was absent. The firm would assist with planning issues as the county has had no planner since firing Steve Craig in January. Labi Carando now leads the environmental services department after moving from recycling and solid waste. Hourly rates quoted: $5 for directing planning or senior planner. $40 for staff planner. $35 for cartographer or drafter. $25 for a scorer.
