Fireworks safety urged for July displays over private use
Dear Abby warns that fireworks injure thousands yearly and eye injuries are common. The American Optometric Association and 35 national groups urge avoiding private fireworks and attending professional displays. A CPSC study from 1999 reports 6,300 ER injuries, 40 percent under 15, mostly male. Sparklers are a leading eye injury cause. A second letter highlights parental clashes in a religiously diverse family, advising open communication and respecting adult daughter’s choices.
