Dr Basil Finer, associate professor at Uppsala, told a Seattle symposium hypnosis helps acute and chronic pain by deep relaxation and rising numbness. He may combine hypnosis with drugs or nerve blocks and notes up to 90 percent can be hypnotized. Chronic sufferers often need ongoing support and may face withdrawal, addiction, and institutional fatigue.
