Two Injured in Separate New Castle Accidents
A three year old New Castle girl suffered abrasions after walking into a moving car driven by Michael H. Fandozzi in Pire Street. He could not stop in time and the girl was treated and released from Jameson Memorial Hospital. A Chicago woman was treated at St. Francis Hospital for a possible jaw fracture after crashing into a utility pole on Neal Street while reportedly falling asleep at the wheel. She was released into her doctor’s care.

Harry H. Pearce Sr., 84, of Inglewood California, formerly of New Castle, died after an illness at home. Born January 14, 1681 in Pittsburgh to James R. and Agnes Pearce, he married Edith Thomas in 1912 and worked as plant manager for American Can Co. in New Castle, retiring in 1946 after 29 years. Survived by wife, eight grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren, two daughters and three sons. Funeral set for 2 pm Friday at Inglewood Park Mortuary.

Artillery reunion set for Sunbury across July to August
About 30 to 35 New Castle men plan to attend the eleventh Field Artillery Group Assn World War I reunion in Sunbury from July 30 to August 1. Organizers expect up to 1,000 attendees, including more than 900 former artillerymen and families from Michigan Illinois Kentucky Florida New York New Jersey and elsewhere. Gen Jim Dan Hall retired former colonel will be the special guest. The 12th annual reunion is planned for New Castle.

Accidents at road project cause two crashes
Two crashes occurred within eight hours on U.S. 224 nine miles west of New Castle during resurfacing prep. A tractor-trailer driven by Owen Christner rear-ended a car driven by Raymond Mankin. Christner was cited for reckless driving. Mankin and another driver escaped injury.
