Lawrence County hospitals used 6471 units of blood products from July 1998 to June 1999, per Red Cross. Allegheny County hospitals including West Penn St Francis of Pittsburgh and Mercy reported over 60000 units through June 1999. Blood products include whole blood red cells platelets fresh frozen plasma and cryoprecipitate to prevent and treat bleeding in hemophilia patients.
