Bell Atlantic denies promising rapid 911 backup times
Pittsburg area officials claim Bell Atlantic promised a backup 911 system would start within 10 minutes of an outage. A spokeswoman said no fixed timeframe exists and cited a complex process. Investigations point to a switch and software failure delaying calls across four counties. Beaver and Lawrence counties plan to switch to a two-switch system to prevent future outages.
