Council backs Gussie Walker youth center plan
The council supports a Gussie Walker youth center proposal with funding from the Hoyt Foundation. A city resolution of support is needed for the funding application. The program runs after school and in summer, with daily meals, snacks, crafts, swimming, and field trips. It currently operates from St. John's Holy Church basement, serving 45 daily and up to 60 last summer. A new center would provide classrooms, a gym, and separate age groups.
