L. B. Round, vice president and general manager of Pennsylvania Power Company, announced the filing of a new low rate schedule. The move replaces current immediate rates with a uniform residence rate and includes changes to commercial and other service classes, aiming at an estimated $165,000 reduction.
The Pennsylvania Power Company filed a tariff with the Public Utility Commission to grant annual net reductions of 168000 dollars effective July 1. The change affects 28,107 customers across Allegheny Beaster Butler Lawrence and Mercer counties. The company lists New Castle as its principal office.
A 1930 program aimed to unify residential rates for New Castle Sharon Greenville Peoples Power Ellwood City Hydro and Harmony Electric. Separate tariffs existed with wide variances. By 1935 progress included standardization and rate reductions, aided by a so called objective rate plan filed in that year.
On South Ray street a fledgling robin drew traffic as a car avoided it. John Clark, a Ray Street fireman, charged to save the bird but was mobbed by the parent birds. He retreated, reapproached, and finally secured the youngster behind the fire station, still watched by the noisy parents. A separate note mentions Fourth of July preparations and new firework regulations likely altering the celebration this year.

New Castle will host its second annual pet parade on Friday afternoon June 30. Organised by the New Castle Recreational Educational Council with St Alfred Owens as general parade chair, a citizen group will assist. Parade starts at Rosena field 2 30 pm, follows South Jefferson East Washington Water Street South Mill and over the Neshannock breech bridge back to the field. Prizes and theatre passes for participants. Mrs Harry L Sturdevant president of the REC Group. Ibsimmer’s parade previously sponsored.
Testimonial dinner plans to honor the Pennsylvania Power Company are complete with tickets limited to 1500 for June 29. At a Monday general committee meeting, 1260 seats were claimed, and reports show most arrangements are settled. General Chairman William A. Francis announced committee updates as reception and distinguished guest groups ready to handle their duties that night.
In Pittsburgh East Liberty two armed robbers opened fire during a marker holdup at J. P. Saunders market. Patrolman Edward Conway died after being shot in the neck and shoulders. radio patrolman Thomas Cox aided, capturing one suspect as the other fled.
Paul Taylor, a pilot at New Castle Airport, reports seeing a live black bear near Parkstown during the weekend. He says he chased the animal away from the hangar in the night and warns others that the bear may be real, despite earlier joking reactions.
From San Diego 190 miles south of Los Angeles a huge British flying boat will start a record 5750 mile delivery flight to England next month. Squadron leader James 12 Addams, Air Ministry rep in California, says the route will have a single stop at Botwood Newfoundland 9300 miles from San Diego.
Harrisburg June 27 a second continuance in the trial of 12 high ranking Democrats was granted as state motor police searched for Thomas B Wilt a bookkeeper for Pittsburgh city treasurer James P Kirk and one of the scheduled witnesses Unable to serve the subpoena Wilt was last seen in the city occupying a hotel room near Kirk if not located by 1 PM today the court would reschedule the proceedings and the case would be continued to tomorrow

The oath follows days of bickering and probes into WPA corruption at Louisiana State University. Police announce charges against J Emory Adams, ex-LSA bookseller and ally of Dr James Monroe KUY in New Castle.
Louis B. Reund Dr W F Jackson and ex Troop Commander John B Bredell returned Monday from Camp Wood Annville Pa praising the Troop's drill discipline and health. Major Edward T Albert expressed pleasure at the Troop's status as boxing prospects and at the forthcoming Friday camp break with New Castle visitors filing in for mess duty.
A $1,000 reward was posted for the capture and conviction of Ray Olson, the suspected killer of deputy sheriffs. Wisconsin's north woods tracking continues as hunts by hundreds of possemen press on for ten days. Olson, an expert marksman, may have been the Tacoma child kidnap slay suspect in 1936, sheriff George Seehuetter said.
Barney Cannett, famed for his homemade fish-shaped submarine, set course eastward aiming for a 40 mile underwater cruise down the Hudson toward New York City. He previously attempted to cross Lake Michigan but weather halted the stunt.
Washington news reports a defiant Senate coalition rejecting all compromise proposals to restore Roosevelt’s emergency monetary powers. The Senate moved to devalue the dollar’s gold content, ban further purchases of foreign silver, and require the Treasury to buy American silver at 77.37 cents an ounce. Treasury officials offered no public comment as they assessed the financial impact.
Mercer Pa June 27 United States news report says agents of the State Milk Control Board who arrested 25 district farmers for selling below milk code were recalled to Harrisburg today by Chairman Howard G Elsaman. Six cases listed for trial and three others slated for grand jury action while he continued. District Attorney F Moon of Mercer county advised he would not prosecute.
In Wheeling West Virginia June 27 William J. Boles a 44 year old Baltimore and Ohio railroad yard engine conductor was instantly killed when his body was run over by his own engine and cars after his foot caught in a switch. He had been working in the produce brokers yards and was trapped as the slowly moving train bore down. Authorities said his screams were not heard by the engineer.
Pittsburgh June 27 an autopsy was ordered for a man tentatively identified as James Scannell whose body was recovered from the Ohio River near Belleville late yesterday. The exact cause of death was to be established.
