A curious storm centers on New Castle drawing attention from residents and officials. Weather crews monitor its path as winds and rain threaten local areas, prompting precautionary measures and advisories for nearby communities.
A severe Sunday storm in New Castle caused extensive flood damage from hill runoff. The First Methodist church steeple and the Pearson building flag pole were struck by lightning, roof damage at City Hall. Kolnitz residence on Pearson street suffered chimney damage. Residents were dazed but unhurt. Continued on Page Four.
Citizens push for a $50,000 bond to repave downtown streets and repair storm sewers. The vote by the Select council tonight is awaited as past ordinances were rejected by one vote, with North Street declared almost impassable and streets in disrepair a public disgrace.
Local farmers in northern Lawrence County start mowing to gather the hay crop as wheat heads toward harvest in a week to ten days. Heavy rains yesterday damaged some fields but overall yields look good. Unusually hot May weather fostered an earlier harvest season.

Ruffalo Conicci was fined 25 dollars by Mayor Lusk this morning for a disorderly conduct charge. He had been taken into custody last night after Sam Levine alleged threats and the possession of a blackjack and a gun. A verbal clash occurred when Conicci faced the prosecutor before the mayor.
In Wheeling West Virginia on Sunday morning a masked man robbed the First Christian church treasury as Rev W H Fields preached and Brooks Adams the treasurer was counting the offering. The gunman entered through a rear door and escaped with the money. Adams could not identify the attacker.
The annual reunion of Co. B. Roundhead regiment will be held Wednesday at the home of Robert Dodds near Indian Run, four miles north of New Wilmington. Dinner, music and speaking will feature the day, with W. C. Martin and James Marquis in charge.
Rodney J. Diegel senator sergeant at arms of the Ohio legislature stands tried in Columbus on aiding and abetting Senator L. R. Andrews in soliciting bribes. Sensational testimony is reported from the proceedings.
Frank Hawk, a railroad worker from this city, filed for divorce from Harriet Early Hawk in Kittanning. Harriet, a 16 or 17 year old Kittanning native, had earlier eloped with Hawk after initial run ins and a troubled courtship including a failed marriage license attempt in Pittsburgh. The subpoena was served on Harriet at her mother's home in Kittanning.
Indiana Pa June 26 The senior class at the Indiana Normal school presents the annual play during commencement exercises. The class is the largest yet with 143 regular students plus 18 conservatory musicians 11 commercial and 9 art department graduates.
Miss Bessie Schoedel aged 17 set a Western Pennsylvania women’s long distance record by swimming nine crossings of the Allegheny River in a downpour, totaling one and one quarter miles without a break.
Street Commissioner Barteaux reports yesterday's fierce storm left streets heavily covered with dirt. In Mahoningtown alone 50 to 60 wagon loads of debris clogged roads while uptown areas faced similar damage. A new cement wall at the Jefferson street bridge must be built and 25 to 30 wagon loads of dirt are needed to fill a large washout.
Deputy Surveyor Richard A. Parr said he was offered 300000 to drop his probe into alleged jewelry smuggling linked to Wisconsin and Tennessee interests. He refused, noting government pay and plans to push the case with evidence seized by Collector Loeb. Mrs Jenkins, a key government witness, had been watched by private detectives.

More than a hundred visitors toured the Duck Run Outing camp near Ellwood City as workers finalize preparations. The camp will not open this week. Charles Fisher is named as steward for the summer and will lead at the opening.
Workmen are retouching and redecorating all first floor rooms in the Lawrence Savings & Trust company building. A major interior improvement is underway to brighten and modernize the banking rooms.

Giuseppe Nacco is led to the death chair in Auburn New York where he resists and screams as guards push him into place. The Catholic chaplain delivers a crucifix as 1840 volt current is applied and two additional contacts are needed to declare death. Nacco killed Antonio Candiano in Niagara Falls in 1909 after a quarrel over a child.
Mrs. Bessie Miller filed an information with Alderman Green charging her husband Frank C. Miller with desertion and non support of herself and two minor children. He was arrested and committed to the county jail in default of bail.
A series of social events this week honors Miss Hazel Dick Miss Rebecca Bell Miss Winifred Lloyd and Miss Eliza Dickey. Hosts include Miss Adalene Woodworth and Mrs J S Westlake with breakfasts luncheons dinners and a park picnic scheduled across Tuesday through Saturday in Greensburg Mansfield Greenville and Park Avenue locations.
Walter Nowacki twenty an inspector on the Pennsylvania railroad was hurled against a telegraph pole from his motorcycle traveling at 46 miles an hour and killed in Pittsburg Pennsylvania on June 26.
City Engineer Milholland waits for a state health department decision on extending the permit for sewer construction and a proposed sewage disposal plant. With no reply by Friday, all work on new sewer projects may stop and the Mahoning River may remain the sewer outlet.
Pupils of the musical department presented the cantata Ruth this afternoon at California State Normal School in California, Pa. The 188 member class graduates this week and reunions were held for classes from 1975 to 1911, with grad counts from two to 136.
In Altoona Pennsylvania on June 26 11 year old John Woods and 10 year old Joseph Curry were involved in a dispute over a penny and Curry allegedly shot Woods. Authorities report the incident as a fatal shooting with medical responders rushing to the scene.
The Cunningham Guggenheim coal claims in Alaska, valued from one hundred million to one billion dollars, were cancelled by Commissioner Dennett with Interior Secretary Bishop approving. The lands will revert to the public domain and may be opened again. Cunningham's attorneys plan to appeal to the U S Supreme Court, arguing the decision.
G G Stitzinger and partners clear a condemnation hurdle for Bowlesburg and Southern railroad in West Virginia. They plan to start grading immediately, aim to have part in service before snow, and connect Rowlesburg to Muzette with a 10 000 acre timber holding and a Muzette mill expansion. Meanwhile Har ry Gross & Co acquire Stillman store on Washington street from John Stillman and move in with plans for continued success.
Federal grand jury indicts officers agents and members of paper board manufactures and co partnerships in the Eastern Box Board club for conspiracy in restraint of trade. Many indicted are tied to the Fibre & Manila Association which paid an $88 000 Sherman act fine in February 1910.
