West Pittsburg power plant to switch from coal to gas
NRG Energy plans to convert the West Pittsburg plant from coal to natural gas and operate as a peaker facility. The project follows NRG's Dec 14 merger with GenOn Energy, which had planned plant shutdown in 2016 for environmental reasons. Completion is targeted for May 2016 with gas delivery via a new pipeline and state environmental approvals ongoing.
