In New York June 25 Alfredo Cocchi the confessed killer of Ruth Cruger tried to kill himself in a Bologna cell by headbutting a wall. Police watched closely as a guard was stationed at the well door to thwart any attempt. Cocchi claimed he saw Ruth Cruger when she came to his shop to have skates sharpened and said he could not remember details but attacked and killed her. He spoke of visions of an electric chair after questioning began and fears extradition to the United States.
