Drowning at Second Dam Claims John B. Lewis
John Ben Lewis, 17, son of Mr. and Mrs. William Lewis of 109 Chestnut Street, drowned near the Dilworth Paper mill’s second dam Wednesday night shortly before 11. His body was recovered about 40 minutes later by Charles Shellenberger. Lewis had been with two companions, Jack Henry and another young man, and attempted to swim after saying he could not swim. Despite frantic efforts by his companions and a successful rescue attempt by Shellenberger using a hook, Lewis died. Coroner Cox viewed the remains. Funeral services were set for Saturday at 10 a.m. at the family residence.
