The House Ways and Means Committee began work on liberalizing Social Security rules. Proposals include immediate retirement for totally disabled workers, lowering the spousal age to 62, and extending benefits for disabled dependent children past 18. New Castle residents report new traffic signs along city streets to curb accidents while vandals damage welcoming signs at city entrances. A bus incident drew riders’ ire when a non paying passenger was removed after a yellow jacket boarded and looted the Diamond area.

U S Supreme Court Justice Earl Warren and his wife Nina flew to Stockholm to begin a seven week tour of Europe. Warren called the trip his first real vacation in 30 years in politics.
In West Mifflin a car careened over a hedge and struck two year old Valentine Szwarc as he played on the lawn. The crash followed a collision that injured a 10 year old girl and two men. Valentine suffered a possible head injury and a broken leg. Police said the wreck involved Homestead policeman Thomas Hickey and West Mifflin resident William Chetsko. Nancy Brozek, a Chetsko passenger, was in serious condition with chest and internal injuries. Hickey had a broken nose and Chetsko was treated for cuts and bruises.
Bargaining teams from the CIO United Steel Workers hold separate talks with Bethlehem and Republic to press for a substantial wage increase. U. S. Steel plans a wage offer later this week, while meetings with other majors continue and contracts limit wage talks this year.
Robert Davidson age 34 of Bessemer is in critical condition at New Castle hospital after a midnight wreck on Mt Jackson road route 108 near the PRR station. The Martin Brothers Trucking outfit lost brakes and overturned, tearing a tree limb and landing in a cornfield. The tractor separated from the trailer and was hurled 30 yards. Davidson was ejected and found between the two units.
The Senate approved a larger Marine Corps of 215000 for the next year by a 40 to 39 vote, adding 46 million dollars amid administration plans to cut to 193000. Sen. Stuart Symington urged public opinion to press the President, as the measure faces House concurrence.
Tokyo officials said Japan is set to receive more than 100 million dollars in arms from the United States for its growing land forces in the 1956 fiscal year. Additional loans of warships and planes were also expected.
The Western Big Three accepted V M Molotovs proposal for a UN peace declaration but insisted it carry no Soviet peaceful coexistence propaganda. The declaration must be presented by UN Assembly President Van Kleffens, not by East or West members.

Los Angeles AFL transportation union officials said more than one million residents may have to walk or drive to work for at least the rest of the week as 26 000 striking operators and maintenance workers prepare to vote on the latest company offer Friday. The walkout began Monday and union leaders say it was an official strike despite no formal vote to accept the proposal.
Evansville officials at the F. W. Cook brewery faced a decision to dump 18,000 barrels or strike a deal with CIO workers to return and bottle it. The beer was aging when workers walked out June 9 and now stands at a critical stage.
United Press reports a complete cabinet shakeup in Argentina with Rear Adm. Louis Cornes replacing Rear Adm. Anibal Olivieri in the navy ministry after Thursday’s abortive revolt. Diplomatic sources say Army minister Gen. Franklin Lucero may seek to form a military junta with President Juan D. Peron as figurehead, resembling Egypt’s 1953 events.
Three dishonorably discharged G I s did not arrive in Hong Kong before the border with Red China closed for the night. The men were reported by Peiping last Saturday to be on their way out of Communist China after refusing repatriation as POWs following the Korean armistice. Reports said the Americans and two Belgians who defected to North China may be handed over to the UN Armistice Commission in Korea.

Two North Korean air force officers fled to Seoul landing at the city airport in a Russian built light plane seeking asylum with the United Nations command. Senior Captain Lee Oon Lyong and Second Lieutenant Lee Eun Seung, both 24, identified as from the 58th unit at North Korea’s air force HQ, said they flew from Munsun outside Pyongyang. They were taken to US Intelligence headquarters for questioning while newsmen were not allowed to interview them. The incident followed a prior defection in 1953 by an MIG jet pilot.
The House Armed Services Committee considers a substitute military reserve bill branded by opponents as a shell of President Eisenhower's program. Sponsored by Chairman Carl Vinson, the measure aims to form an organized reserve of 2,900,000 men, while Pentagon officials say it seriously impairs the administration plan. Five people riding in a car were killed when it collided with a tractor trailer on Route 206 near Somerville New Jersey. Surviving occupant James Cordick of Bradley Gardens was in critical condition with multiple injuries. Car occupants Ralph Horton Steve Chonko Francis Trout Robert Sawyer and Lawanda Serafino all of Bridgewater died in the crash. The truck driver Herman B Walsh of Rosendale New York was treated and released from Somerville Hospital.
Indian Prime Minister Nehru announced that Soviet Premier Nikolai Bulganin will visit India with no fixed date. Nehru, speaking at a press conference for about 75 reporters, said he invited Bulganin and the invitation was accepted. He endorsed Eisenhower on the Geneva Big Four process as gradual.
Charles Lyle Dice age 78 of Enon Valley died Tuesday June 21 1955 at his residence. He is survived by a daughter and two sons. Funeral arrangements are incomplete at this time and are pending with the Miller Funeral Home.
