Sixty Hot Mills Resume Operation At Local Plants

Sixty hot mills, all operated by the American Sheet and Tin Plate Company, are running in New Castle today. The final eight mills at the New Castle Works restarted at 8 am after 17 months idle, with twelve mills already back online. Shenango plant has operated its forty mills at capacity, and finishing departments will synchronize with the hob mills to produce black plate. The restart followed a June 26 schedule set by BD S. Byle, with workers rallied to ready the furnaces and rolls.
