Waite Murder Trial Jury Drawn After Long Deliberation

Rosewell Waite stands trial for murder in the death of Frank Skidmore after more than 100 talesmen were examined and a panel of twelve jurors selected. Prosecutors rehearse a premeditated killing with Waite firing on officers Atkinson and Skidmore as they approached his home.

State's Witnesses Rapidly Examined at Murder Trial

The trial opened with Fred Woolford, an undertaker from Mahoningtown, describing carrying Skidmore's body from hospital to the morgue and noting two bullet wounds, one entry near the left breast and exit near the side. He testified about wound depth, discoloration, and uncertain whether one or two bullets caused them, while cross examining details with the defense. Nearby neighbor Peter Johnson testified hearing eight shots near 7 o'clock and finding a policeman at the scene, with witnesses recounting cries of murder and locating the victim at the roadside with a shirt opened for inspection.
