Bear tranquilized after crossing road in New Wilmington
A bear wandered the borough around 9:15 a.m. and crossed a car path, leaving a scratch but being deemed a trophy by the driver. Police and Game Commission officers tranquilized the bear at 11:45 a.m. after it climbed a tree, then transported it to Clarion County. Residents reported sightings and the animal had arrived in town over the weekend.

Brooke Army Medical Center researchers report a twice weekly month long program of physical therapy and knee exercises reduced pain and surgery rates for arthritic knees. In 83 patients, mostly over 60, six minute walk distance rose about 6 percent after eight weeks of clinic and home training. A year later only 5 percent of those who underwent therapy remained unable to walk without pain.
