Abortion Debate Sets Up Budget Clash in Harrisburg
In Harrisburg the abortion bill fight stalled budget talks threatening fiscal chaos. Rep. Martin Mullen pressed for an immediate vote while Democratic leaders warned a heated debate could derail the budget schedule before June 30. The GOP pushed cost-cutting and a reform report claiming potential savings of 711 million dollars, with Shapp's budget reflecting part of those figures. In Indiana Pennsylvania, 335 United Rubber Workers Local 947 members voted to accept a contract at McCreary Tire & Rubber Co.
