County jail privatization discussed amid closed talks
County officials consider outsourcing a 96 member jail staff with 79 under union contract ending December 31. Most full time staff belong to Local 964. Officials say privatization talks were private as an administrative matter, while critics urge public meetings under the Sunshine Act to explain why requests for proposals were issued without public discussion.

Borough updates pit bull ordinance after dog complaint
The borough reviews a long standing 1987 pit bull ordinance covering breeds such as the American Staffordshire Terrier and American Pit Bull Terrier and mixed dogs. Provisions prohibit loose dogs and require secure enclosures, leashing, muzzling, seizure and destruction for attacks. Council President John Kliem notes he is the sole member who served when adopted, and a recent incident initially thought to involve pit bulls was later found to involve Boxers. Council members Brad McKenna and Art VanTassel were absent due to work commitments.
