Death records list Mrs A H Heasley aged 56 of 717 Brooklyn Avenue Charles M Kristopher aged 62 of Zelienople and Mrs Howard P Meehan aged 38 of 120 North Crawford Avenue.
Repair work on a condemned Montgomery bridge in Williamsport area led to its collapse into the Susquehanna River. Victims were Clifford Miller and Raymond J. Hill, both residents of Montgomery. The state highway department ordered an investigation into the disaster as six of nine spans fell, believed caused by vibrations from air compressor drills used in repairs.
New York June 19 Assistant Secretary of Labor Edward F McGrady predicted a speedy settlement of the broad steel strike before leaving for Washington He is on the mediation board appointed by Secretary Perkins and planned to fly to Cleveland for the board's first meeting.
Weekly weather outlook notes showers in the North and Middle Atlantic States on Tuesday and Friday with moderate warmth later in the week. The Ohio Valley and Tennessee region expect showers early, after midweek, and again at week end with overall warmth, but cooler spells in the upper Ohio Valley Tuesday night and again Thursday night.
Rome June 19 reports 104 Americans among 1000 foreign volunteers who perished May 30 when the Spanish government steamer Ciudad de Barcelona sank. The dispatch says volunteers aided Spanish loyalists against insurgents and that the ship carried 800 American airplane motors. Valencia authorities are attempting salvage.
Edwin O. Reed welfare officer for Lawrence county survived a crash with a Baker Drive trailer truck near the Kittanning street bridge in Butler. He sustained three fractured ribs and bruises while en route to Cresson with John Hutchison for treatment. Grace Reed and Hutchison also injured. County Commissioner Floyd J. Cotton assisted and Hutchison was taken on to Cresson. Reed and Grace Reed returned home with painful but non serious injuries.
Three people died when a Baltimore and Ohio passenger train struck their car in Smithton. The victims were Ada Lape, 40, her daughter Mary Jane Lape, and neighbor Edward Summel, 23. The wreckage left the car mangled and the bodies were thrown about 75 feet.
London reports the death of Sir James Barrie, creator of Peter Pan, at age 77 from pneumonia amid aging infirmities. His loss crowds the arts world with mourning as Barrie, alongside George Bernard Shaw, was hailed a foremost playwright of the era and his immortal boy remains in memory.
In Pittsburgh on June 19 a lovers quarrel ended in a double tragedy when a suitor shot and killed Mrs. Donnie Frame, 38, mother of a six year old, then killed himself. The double shooting occurred in a north side boarding room where Frame resided.
Pittsburgh June 19 Attorney General Charles J Margiotti left the city by auto at once to Johnstown to handle martial law matters. Assistant District Attorney George F P Langfitt took over the Fayette county third degree murder trial of DA James A Reilly. Margiotti hoped to return Monday for final summation to the jury. He was accompanied by L R Lindgren, a staff attache.
The insurgent radio at Durango reported that Bilbao has fallen under rebel control. The Evening Standard in London carried the dispatch dated June 19, noting the enterprising advance of rebel forces into Bilbao.
Berlin reports repeated attacks by red Spanish submarines on the German cruiser Leipzig and warns of swift reprisals if the non intervention powers do not act.
