Mrs. George Moser of 208 Last Grant Street says her ancestor Frederick B. Seifert supplied the ox for the Market House barbecue of 1849. Seifert and two apprentices prepared the animal and served at the banquet. The Seifert slaughterhouse later stood along Washington Street near early Gazette offices. Mrs. Moser preserves an old advertisement praising Seifert’s meats and the community event.
