Death of Christopher Askew Marks Quiet, Long Life of Service
In New Castle the citizen Christopher Askew is mourned for a life rich in service and devotion. An avid admirer of Queen Victoria he rode as a guard of honor for the queen’s Windsor journey in 1888. He joined the British Army in 1838, emigrated to America in 1852, and moved to New Castle two years ago to live with his son. He leaves ten children, six of whom are dead, and endured heart trouble in later years while maintaining his faculties. He died peacefully Tuesday morning.
