A tumultuous Chicago convention sees Taft and Roosevelt delegates clashing as Chairman Rosewater rules Hadley’s substitute motion out of order. Delegates from both camps flood the hall, while Watson and Hadley stage pyrotechnics amid the demonstrations.
At Chicago June 18 Roosevelt delegates led by Bill Flinn and the Pennsylvania group sparked clashes as the convention debated the temporary roll. A fight over seating and a challenge to the national committee’s control drew police and parliamentary delving, with Hadley urging a fair roll amid cheers and jeers from both sides.

The yardmaster of the P and L B reports the night clerk has been moved to Gardner Avenue while other yard office business continues in the new Junction building. No phones are installed there yet apart from the company line, and vacation and rumors have caused confusion.
New Castle to secure a new sprinkler cart after the street committee reported the old water wagon worn out. Councils were advised to approve purchasing a replacement to aid city water service.

Six men and Mrs. Fannie Kelly were sentenced Monday afternoon by Judge Porter for selling liquor without licenses. Fannie Kelly got three months in jail and a $500 fine with costs. Harry Kelly faced $500 fine and six months in the Allegheny county workhouse. Delmonico's on South Mill Street was cited as the source, with others receiving three month workhouse terms and $500 fines. Some cases held for new trials, others concluded with fines and workhouse terms.
City owners of moving picture theatres have paid license fees for varying periods, some for a year and some for three months, while others remain closed. Some paid hoping the license ordinance would be repealed. council and mayor will decide. Unpaid past licenses remain unsettled, with information prepared but not served.
The Wampum school board re elected all current teachers at a meeting last night led by principal J C Syling. New secretary S P Majors appointed to fill J H Baer's vacancy. R H Ailey chosen collector of school taxes and also borough collector. The board will organize for the coming year on July 1.
At 10 15 this morning the Coliseum doors opened for the Republican convention in Chicago. Delegates and ticket holders entered as bunting and flags decorated the hall. A strong police presence guarded the stairs to the speaker’s platform, with no unusual incidents reported for now.
R P Jellison of 1824 East Washington street learned of his brother James M Jellison death in Fall City Nebraska where a scaffold collapse left him nine feet above ground. The bricklayer, about 54, had worked in the west for 30 years after leaving New Castle where he was born and raised.
William S. Wheeler of this city travels with his bride on a honeymoon and will sit in the Coliseum when the Republican convention opens in Chicago. He is closely connected with LaFollette and attends through LaFollette’s arrangements to witness the event.
Mike Vasilnak of Atlantic avenue was sentenced by Mayor Tyler to ten days in county jail or a $5 fine plus costs after pleading guilty to abusing his wife. George Vasilnak, arrested for a similar charge, was discharged for lack of evidence.
Mrs Elizabeth McCune and her sister Miss Margaret McCune of Wilkinsburg will leave their home next month for a two months trip abroad. They plan to visit Ireland and stay with friends there.
James Edwards was arrested by police last night on his mother's complaint for abusing her. He was fined five dollars and, failing to pay, sentenced to ten days in jail.
Death notices list William J. Kirker aged 76 of 1728 Pennsylvania Avenue Hosea Gallagher aged 39 of Portersville and Gerald Cochran aged 2 days of Shenango Township. Local record terse items note these passing events.
President Taft and his party watched the Chicago convention proceedings through United Press direct leased wire. The setup extended to the executive offices so Taft could receive quick action reports, flash bulletins, and descriptive stories from United Press correspondents amid the nomination struggle.

Anthony Sheridan was arrested yesterday and held for court on a liquor without a license charge with $800 bail after a hearing before Alderman Mayne. W A Beaumont and William Vetters were also arrested on the same charge and face hearings this evening, with ex-mayor Louis M Hainer on Vetters bond for $800. Informations were filed by Constable W B Orris.
City officials request City Solicitor Gardner to draft a downtown traffic ordinance. No current traffic rules exist though council has debated the issue multiple times. The measure aims to regulate traffic on the downtown streets.
The $50,000 alienation suit of F. E. Welker against E. E. Hazen, Celia resident near Ellwood City, opened before Judge Porter. Welker alleges Hazen’s attentions to Mrs. Welker after leasing Hazen’s farm damaged their marriage and prompted the suit for damages. Witness Clint E. Sankey testified, noting Hazen’s farm near Celia and Welker’s family life. Continued on Page Eight.
Daniel Dutts aged 70 fell at his home 810 West North Street last night about 8 o clock. He sustained two fractured ribs and a badly shattered right elbow. His age and condition make the accident exceedingly serious.
The city of New Castle won court approval Monday for a bond of 6256.50 to condemn Shaw’s Island in the Beaver River for a proposed garbage disposal plant. The island, just below Mahoningtown, covers about 28 acres. Separately Shenango Valley hospital reported year ending May 31, 1912 with 150 beds (100 patients, 50 employees) and 15646 patient days, 39710 percent free.
In Youngstown on June 18 Omele DePascola fell for an old trick used to rob foreigners. Two strangers approached and, with neatness and dispatch, stole 256 dollars from him in a confidence scheme.
