Bessemer Council Hears Merge Talk With North Beaver
Bessemer's fire department faces a merger debate as council weighs combining with North Beaver. A Friday blaze at Mike Jerasa's 104 Fifth Street burned the home to a total loss with only two Bessemer firefighters on scene, aided by mutual aid from North Beaver Township and Springfield Township. Jerasa urged merging for better fire coverage, while officials cited staffing, training, and morale issues. The meeting highlighted volunteer recruitment challenges and ongoing internal disputes among council and department leaders. BESSEMER, PAGE A6

Council missteps lock in truck ban by mistake
Three Bessemer council members say they unintentionally voted in May on an amendment adding about 30 streets to the truck traffic and truck parking ban. They believed they were deciding whether to take a vote and expected a roll call if final. Despite admission, the amendment remains in effect with no move to nullify.
