Mohawk district trims staff amid budget clash and protests
The Mohawk School Board approved layoffs and a 2016-17 budget with full-time to part-time demotion for Jason Zeh and furloughs for Mark McCullough and Diana Mangino, aiming to save about $875,000. About 200 attended as several walked out. Mohawk Education Association urged delay of furloughs, citing student loss and fund balance. New board member James McKim defended the cuts, saying no student will be harmed. Leadership blamed state underfunding and a late budget for the difficulty.
