Walsh-Healey bill killed by House committee

International News Service reports the Walsh-Healey bill to regulate government contracts and extend wage protections was killed by the House Rules Committee led by C. I. O. ally John Lewis. Only four of 14 members supported the measure. Lewis and aides reportedly threatened political reprisals if Congress did not act. The bill would have applied wage and hour rules to contracts over 2900 and blacklisted firms defying labor board orders.

Harrisburg reports bids for 13 highway projects totaling 31.63 miles will be opened by the Department of Highways on June 24. Projects include Arally township rural route improvements, a U S 224 bridge in Mahoning township, and widening on U S 62 through Sands Lake Mineral French Creek and Sandy Creek townships.
