Two Youths Cause Fire Alarm Stir At Castleton Hotel

Two youngsters about 10 years old pulled Box 114 in front of the Castleton Hotel at 2:20 PM causing a major alarm. Six fire companies responded while onlookers in cars and on the street watched the incident before police detained the youths.

Autos Skid On Highway Near Harlansburg Hill

Half a dozen autos skidded from the highway into the gutter at the hilltop near Harlansburg. One woman was injured when the cradle-basket flew from a car seat and struck her above the left eye. Mrs Raymond Michel of Hudson suffered a laceration as she shielded her child during the crash.

Youth's Condition Reported Serious

Martin Richard Fabian an 11 year old son of Mr and Mrs Martin Fabian of 1012 North Liberty street is in New Castle hospital in serious condition from a bullet wound. The bullet passed through the stomach and pancreas and rests near the spine and has not been removed. He was accidentally shot by playmate George Farone of 539 North Liberty street who was preparing to try out a gun when it discharged.

Cement Plant To Resume Next Week

Approximately 220 workers will be recalled when Lehigh Portland Cement Company restarts operations next week under Superintendent Wesley Davy. All are current employees with no new hires. daily shifts begin at six a.m. and total thirty six weekly hours across six days. The plant will run 24 seven, with relief staff covering the extra hours. Upgrades include a forty ton feeder in the crusher. repairs are to start soon to be ready by June 19.

Attorney Clarence Atterson today announced his resignation as counsel to the Workmen's Compensation Board, effective July 1, accepted by Attorney General Claude T. Reno.
