Demolition of dilapidated school halted by state probe
A demolition crew began tearing down the former Terrace Avenue School at Comet Terrace and Sarah Jefferson Street but a Department of Environmental Protection official halted work after a neighbor's alert. Highland House weighs options for services consolidation
Highland House ponders options for consolidating services at the former Penn Power building on East Wash ogcon Street in downtown New Castle. Executive director Marilyn Mots says the agency plans to meet June 17 to decide next steps. The zoning proposal would allow mixed use housing and alcohol or drug counseling centers in a central business district C2 area, with emphasis on nonmedical therapy services. The plan, backed by Mayor Mastrangel and council, faces potential override from some members, but appears unlikely to pass this time.
