Angela Davis Freed After Innocent Verdict in California

United Press International reports that Angela Davis was found innocent by an all white jury in San Jose in the 1970 courthouse shootout case. She called it the happiest day of her life but questioned the fairness of the trial and vowed to continue fighting oppression. The week also saw McGovern strengthening his primary lead in California and other national and international news events from 1969-70.

MHMR budget approved for 1972 73 in New Castle area

The county Mental Health Rental Retardation advisory board adopted an 868000 dollar budget for 1972 73. County Commissioners favored sending the proposal to Harrisburg, with the state DPW expected to respond by August and a county share of ten percent of the state amount. Dominic J. Lynch Jr. noted possible state funding up to 301000 dollars.
