SAGINAW VALLEY faces disruption as strike activities in Michigan attributed to a misunderstanding. Governor Murphy is assured the strike will end soon, with officials saying prompt action will restore normal operations.
The 69th graduation exercises occur in the Cathedral auditorium at 8 PM with President Robert N. Montgomery of Muskingum College as speaker. Dr. C. C. Green and Daniel B. Woolcock participate. 293 diplomas will be awarded. Families only admitted. This year 508 seniors have graduated.
U A W leaders headed for Flint by chartered plane with a tentatively signed pact to end the Michigan power strike. CIO Chairman John L. Lewis and Windham Mortimer said settlement terms were reached with Consumers Power chiefs, but Michigan workers could not be notified immediately.
Workmen finish repairing potholes and rough spots on West Washington street between Greenwood Avenue and West Side school. The city reports cleaner roads and smoother driving after the improvements.
United States weather reports for the 24 hour period ending at 9 this morning show a maximum of 81 and a minimum of 56 with 0.02 inches of precipitation. River stage stands at 5 feet. Year ago on the same date the high was 82 and low 52 with 0.56 inches of rain.

Tukhachevsky and ex-assistant defense commissar are jailed or stripped of command, with Belov Yefremov Yakir and Levantovsky also removed from posts amid charges of treachery. Marshal Budenny’s rise from private noted, as the purge expands.
London reports Foreign Secretary Anthony Eden told MPs Britain will never subscribe to the right of reprisal risking early Italo German entry into the Spanish non intervention patrol scheme. English efforts to resume neutrality measures were stalled by Italian and German demands for individual retaliation. Britain urged consultation among all nations in control.
Carlisle Pennsylvania June 9 a highway crash killed 18 year old William Carroll and injured three of six Carlisle high seniors returning from Fuller Lake. The crash occurred when a tire blew on the Pine Grove Furnace highway causing the car to overturn. Faculty members witnessed the accident. Injured were Robert P Masland Jr Dorothy Jane Ennis and Peggy Faraday. George Bosler and James G Hargis Jr escaped uninjured.
Deputy sheriffs armed with machine guns tear gas and armored trucks patrol Youngstown after 12 colleagues are beaten, three seriously, in a strike-related incident near Republic Steel. Sheriff Elser says some deputies were cornered in doorways and rescued. one man arrested as crowds threaten the jail area.
In Buffalo New York the state nears the end of its case as the 22 page confession of Thomas Edward Smith 19 year old described as a model boy is admitted to court records. The confession recounts the February 5 slaying of Mary Ellen Babcock 18 by his own hand including an assault with a jack knife and a rock.
Hollywood mourned Harlean Carpentier as Jean Harlow with a simple service at Forest Lawn Glendale. Police and guards held back crowds while a bronze inlaid casket lay in the flowered Wee Kirk o the Heather chapel.

All public schools in New Castle will close at noon Thursday due to Memorial Day being celebrated on Monday May 31. Commencement is held tonight for the high school graduates, with the official close of school tomorrow.
Madrid faced renewed insurgent shelling and a fierce artillery duel across the front as fears rose of a high death toll. By 11 p m the city was in uproar with shells striking streets and fires breaking out, including a fire at San Joe church, as fighting continued into the morning.

Harrisburg June 9 The Republican State committee demanded to know who the notorious Mr So and So was in the Erie gravel scandal. In an open letter to Gov George H Earle M Harvey Taylor charged the state police report of irregularities in the sale of gravel in highway district 1 concealed more than it exposed. He asked who is Mr So and So referred to by H H Temple in his letter to Arthur Colegrove and said Democrats in the legislature refused to authorize an investigation on orders.
The 99th Lawrence County Sabbath School Association convention meets at Third U P Church New Castle on Thursday June 10 with Rev J Ralph Neale delivering the sermon. Sessions run 9 00 AM 1 00 PM and 7 30 PM EST meals served for delegates by church ladies.
A US Senate poll showed that 38 senators favor a compromise on Roosevelt's Supreme Court proposal, 43 oppose any variation, and 15 remain largely undecided. The fate of any compromise rests with Senators Bankhead, Burton, Brown, Caraway, Chavez, and others from Alabama, Washington, New Hampshire, Arkansas, New Mexico.
Three army planes searched the Salt Lake desert at dawn for a missing craft believed down in a violent storm yesterday between Salt Lake and Elko Nevada. The plane carried Maj. Clarence Hodge and Lieut. Joseph L. McNeil from Boston. It was en route from Oakland to Salt Lake and due at the airport at 2 p.m. Major Hodge, commander of the 26th division of Massachusetts National Guard, served in France in World War I.
Lawrence county faces a troubling case as Anthony Naples ten is charged with murder for shooting a 12 year old playmate Robert Harris at Pollock school noon recess. District Attorney Mont L Riley and a grand jury returned a true bill. Juvenile Officer Jack M Dunlap sent Naples to Polk for exam by Dr Harvey Watkins who reports the boy is neither insane nor weak minded but clearly a criminal type.
About 7,200 workers at Timken Roller Bearing in Canton return to work after ending a week long strike. Workers voted to end the tieup under a temporary accord to settle grievances, after charges the recent wage and working agreement was not fully implemented.
Ohio Governor Martin L. Davey convened a 2 p m Friday conference at the executive mansion in Columbus with Republic Steel officials John Owens and Tom Girdler CIO leaders Philip Murray and Frank Parnell to seek a peaceful solution to the steel strike amid warnings of potential riots and bloodshed. The talk follows a prior meeting with CIO counsel Lee Pressman and others, with the governor stressing impartiality and public safety while denying coercion.
Gottfried Ullrich found his coupe free of a cluster of bees attached to the gasoline tank after a Wilmington man, not named, smoked the bees loose and brushed them into a hive. Ullrich then drove the car without fear of stings. The swarm settled on the car around noon last Saturday.
