Antidraft groups push calls to block Senate registration plan
Washington leaders of the anti draft movement plan to flood the Senate with telephone calls and telegrams to thwart surprise efforts to renew youth registration for military service. The Senate subcommittee approved registration legislation 4 3 in private, sending it to the full Armed Services Committee. The measure would start registering males 18 to 26 on January 2 1980 and classify them for service in March 1981. Critics call the private vote outrageous and deceptive. The House bill would begin in 1981 but not provide for classification. The Senate vote is set for Monday. critics say time to organize opposition will be limited. Reverend Barry Lynn denounces the move as cowardly and deceptive.
