Delinquent rent collection pilot approved by housing authority
Lawrence County Housing Authority won approval to run a pilot project to collect delinquent rents from welfare recipients. Payments would go directly from the State Department of Public Welfare to the housing authority with tenant consent. About 40 residents owing at least $300 would be affected, and nonpayment could lead to eviction. State Sen. W Thomas Andrews voiced optimism that the agreement ends the rent nonpayment issue.
