In Jacksonville Florida a Duval County vice squad raid uncovered about 100 marijuana plants growing in two pound coffee cans. Officers described the odd setup as strange and the farmers fled in a sports car.
A dozen second graders at Steete Elementary in Denver staged a brief protest before nap time, carrying placards demanding their teacher, Mrs. Jo Johnson, be kept with them in third grade. Principal and School Supt. Gilberts said the demand would be considered in due course.
John Laird son of Defense Secretary Melvin Laird will marry Nancy Huset in Chetek Lutheran Church June 14 with Melvin Laird as best man. Bride Nancy Huset of Chetek is an Eau Claire State University junior majoring in social work. John Laird is a sophomore at Eau Claire State aiming to be a history teacher.
Zelienople 45 year old Joseph B. Kearfott died when his car crossed the medial divider on Route 19 and was struck broadside by a tractor trailer. Truck driver Oscar J. Beebe 39 and Kearfott’s daughter Marie 15 sustained cuts but were not hospitalized. State police said the car went off the road then veered into the opposite lane causing the jackknife and cargo spill of beer about a mile south of Zelienople.
The Sandra Watt Kidney Fund committee will meet at 7 30 p m Wednesday at the Lawrence County Vocational Technical School. General Chairman Arthur Zarone asked that all members be present for the last meeting of the school year.
The New Castle Public Library announces summer hours starting Monday through Sept. 13. The adult department operates Monday to Friday 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Saturday 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. The junior department schedule runs Monday 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., Tuesday 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Saturday 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
Adolph DiGennaro reported damage to his home at 1427 Wilson Ave last night. Vandals burned a pile of tree trimmings and shattered 15 to 20 windows in his garage while he was away, after trimming a tree and piling debris in the back yard.
The CHARGE Inc East Side Center offers an arts and crafts class each Tuesday from 7 to 8 20 p m. Mrs Dorothy Wendeland leads. Each week features a new project using scrap materials to create low cost articles. Past projects include paperweights from marbles pin cushions from jar lids cans and foam rubber clay jewelry and centerpieces from flowers and pin cones. The class is open to the public.

Investigators in Absecon New Jersey questioned an 18 year old Norris Town Pennsylvania youth described as a lanky long haired possible suspect in the Memorial Day killings of two vacationing coeds Susan Davis 19 Camp Hill Pennsylvania and Elizabeth Perry 19 Excelsior Minnesota. A Philadelphia police official said the youth was picked up in a Philadelphia clothing store and flunked several questions on a lie detector test leading to further questioning by New Jersey authorities. The investigation also involved a yellow shirt witness lead a blue Chevrolet convertible found near the crime scene and two young men who were with the girls earlier. At least 108 people had been questioned. 10 underwent lie detector tests.
Union Area High School graduates were urged to face college challenges without violence while pursuing reforms. Ivan Boxell told 140 seniors that less than three percent disrupt campuses and praised a future generation marked by sympathy and understanding.
