Steel Leaders Plan Definite Offer On Issues
Washington June 6—A morning White House bargaining session on the steel dispute was called off at management spokesmen request as they draft concrete proposals for settlement of the nationwide strike. Negotiators for the industry and the CIO Steelworkers Union were to meet again at 2 p.m. EDT. Officials report the companies want to present union president Philip Murray with a definite offer to bargain on a give and take basis. Murray indicated some willingness to drop parts of the Wage Stabilization Board package, while stressing hard terms. Government officials led by John R. Steelman remained cautiously optimistic a settlement may be possible. Some said progress was made in yesterday's opening session and today’s talks could decide whether negotiations continue or break off. No new offers had been made yet.
