In Chicago on June 5 Taft and Roosevelt forces arrive to organize headquarters. McKinley and Hilles prepare Taft evidence for the committee while Senator Dixon takes Roosevelt leadership. Ohio results fuel tension as Roosevelt allies warn of possible bolt and seek to claim a majority of uninstructed delegates. Continued on Page Ten.
The Republican National Committee meeting in Chicago faces critical delegate contests for the president nomination. If Taft wins key Roosevelt contests, his path to the nom ination tightens. Ormsby McHarg oversees Roosevelt contest handling.
In Owosso Michigan Margaret Emmer 26 sues for divorce claiming husband Jacob 60 objects to her attending dances with other men. The filing cites marital discord and seeks court relief.
Five nurses complete training at the Shenango Valley hospital Training School in Greer hall. Dr. Herman D. Boyles delivers the commencement address as Edward F. Kurtz plays a violin solo. Attorney Gregory presides and presents diplomas to Miss Martha Elizabeth Lees, Miss Olive Peel Mills, Miss Laura McIntyre Mills, Miss Catherine J. Millar, and Miss Isabella McCann.
Fifteen year old William Tait of Hazel Dell suffered a crushing injury at the Bal timore and Ohio yards when a freight moved as he and companion Tony Reno, 13, attempted to board. Tait may need amputation below the knee. Reno sustained scalp lacerations. Both were taken to Shenango Valley hospital.
Mrs. A. L. Biddle filed information before Alderman Ranney accusing Clifford Robinson, her son in law, of surety of the peace and non support of his minor child ren. He was arrested and jailed in default of $1,000 bail. The couple separated about a year ago and a threatening letter is in Alderman’s possession. Mrs Kate Long travels to attend Edwin little Davis funeral at Ocetonia Ohio.
In Toledo Ohio the Democratic state convention approved a unit rule binding 19 district delegates to Woodrow Wilson. Mayor Newton Baker opposed it and failed on a recall plank while Harmon supporters anticipate binding six at large delegates. No mention of women's suffrage in the platform.
A rush hour inbound car jumped the track on the Western Avenue Bridge in Cambridge Massachusetts ripping through the wooden railing and hanging half over the Charles River. Several people injured others shaken and frightened as passengers fled the car. The motorman remained at his post pulling the brake to prevent a plunge into the water.
Arrangements for a Santa Anna birthday holiday in Wampum include a 10 a.m. mass at St. Monica's and a 9 a.m. public parade led by the Ellwood City Victoria Immanuel III fraternal society. Delegations from out of town are expected, with an evening fireworks display closing the celebration. The committee includes Dominick Perriello Sam Carangi Mrs Michael Joe and Luigi Ferrucci.
Washington June 6 Dr Harvey Wiley the pure food champion and former chief of the bureau of chemistry received an offer to chair the Boston board of health at seven thousand five hundred dollars a year He will study the Boston health report and decide in a few days.
County Commissioners awarded ten concrete arch bridge contracts in Lawrence county totaling about 14 541 with flooring the Muddycreek bridge at 749. All bids went to Pittsburg firms, led by Nelson Meredith Co and Farris Bridge Co. Prices varied, lowest bidders win, enabling permanent concrete structures.
John C. Dight of Mars in Butler county, a Republican delegate, received a Taft telegram asking his view on Root as temporary chairman and on the presidential and vice presidential nominees. He backed Roosevelt for president, seeking an explicitly progressive platform, and favored Beveridge for vice president.
J Bruce Ismay, managing director of the Inter national Mercantile Marine, testifies at the Titanic inquiry in London saying lifeboat capacity was wholly inadequate and that passengers and crew seemed aboard when he escaped. He denies seeing anyone on deck as he boarded the lifeboat. He suggests the Californian may have seen distress signals but disputes the light's identity.
J. V. Bailey of Cleveland, named playground director by the New Castle Playground Association, visited New Castle and praised the grounds. He plans active summer work, arriving June 238 to oversee the opening of six playgrounds with three more later, bringing his experience from directing 22 Cleveland playgrounds.
Tony DuShane of 417 Syndal Street claims to lead in outdoor vegetable growing after planting a dozen tomato plants. He notes a tomato on a vine already three inches in circumference and vines about a foot high, predicting ripe tomatoes next week despite backward weather.
More than eight thousand students and parents join twenty thousand people at Olympic park near McKeesport Pennsylvania for the eighth annual outing hosted by J Denny O Neill county commissioner and political boss. He funds the event from his own means after a law barred using school funds.
Sioux Falls dispatch reports early returns showing Col Roosevelt leading South Dakota with a clear majority for the Republican delegation. Estimated Roosevelt plurality runs from 10 000 to 12 000 as Clark and Wilson contest ten Baltimore delegates. Gamble loses to Sterling while Taft and La Follette vie for second in the presidential race.
New Brighton, Pa June 5 Ground has been broken for a six story grain elevator with concrete foundation and 85 000 bushels capacity that can be expanded to 200 000. J H Hornby Sons build to supply Beaver Valley and compete with western elevators entering Pittsburgh markets.
Manager Smith of the Necks says three new players signed. They will play tomorrow at Cascade park against Salem. Yesterday two new players appeared in the lineup, but Smith did not identify the new signings.
Pasquale Di Vito died at Shenango Valley hospital after injuries from a quarry explosion at Payne's station near Rose Point. His eyes were blown out and he suffered severe injuries. His brother Joseph Di Vito had left for home in the old country. Survived by wife and child in Italy. Funeral Friday at 8:30 a.m. at Captor's undertaking rooms. interment in St. Vitus cemetery.
John Tasu files an information against Vasil Blazier charging sale of liquor without a license. In default of 800 dollars bail alderman Ranney remanded Blazier to jail for a Friday hearing.
James Steiner, a boy from the southern part of the city, was bitten by a dog today. He was taken to a physician for treatment and the dog is expected to be shot.

A New Castle delegation is greeted at a Chautauqua salute with brief addresses by E. E. McGill M. W. Leslie Rev J H Clemens and Judge W E Porter. Ackley’s new song is sung as the crowd applauds.
The New Castle party of about 500 rode the P and L E special to Beaver Falls to hear Bill Sunday. They arrived at the tabernacle to a standing ovation with the band leading a procession and cheers from the crowd. A planned parade was scrapped due to time, and the delegation took reserved seats amid a giant chorus.

Miss Bertie Frantz, physical director of the Y W C A and city schools, reported that a pocketbook containing about $4 and a bunch of keys was stolen from a large handbag left unguarded while she visited the Thaddeus Stevens building yesterday.
