The Republican County committee will meet in New Castle on Saturday to organize for the coming campaign. William A. Eakin is expected to be the leading figure in the current outlook as the meeting discusses plans and speaks with New Castle men at Lawrence Club and a state committee gathering at Har.
County Chairman C H Young leaves the post and Eakin steps in as state committeeman. Senator Crowe leads the party as officials Baker and Johnson are reelected. A July 15 platform plan will outline principles for the November race for senator governor and other statewide posts.
Steve, the man who jumped from the West Washington Street bridge and was rescued, was discharged from the city lockup and returned to seek police protection from neighbors who mock him near West North Street. His last name remains unknown and officials note the incident as a complaint by Steve, the bridge jumper.
Ver A C Locke of Dunkirk N Y was in New Castle on business today. He is a Lawrence County native and a pastor of a large Methodist congregation in Dunkirk.
Over 100 boys have registered at the YMCA for free swimming instruction at the association pool next week. Any boy in the city over eight who cannot swim may register before Friday evening at 8 30, regardless of membership, and will receive personal, no cost lessons from competent instructors.
A storm struck the Harmony line causing two interurban cars to be hit by lightning. One near Hazel Dell en route to Ellwood City stunned motorman Charles Leonard of Harmony. The second car near Bolins burned out and was moved to Ellwood City sidetrack. Passengers remained onboard and arrived about an hour late to New Castle. Storm damage included blown billboards and Bell telephone lines between New Castle and Ellwood City.
John Melroy, a parolee, was jailed after a forged prescription attempt at a local drug store. He previously served for gold theft from a dentist and faces return to the penitentiary. Probation Officer Smith and the mayor had given chances. Mary Bailey, under Smith, also arrested and brought before the court.
J A Leonard a sailor on the battleship Rhode Island spends a 23 day vacation with his stepfather and mother Mr and Mrs John Kanea. He has about a year in the navy with ten months at Tuxpam and Vera Cruz Mexico. His ship was in Cuban waters during Vera Cruz action and is now in Boston. He will leave June 15 to rejoin his ship in Boston as it heads to Mexican waters. He enlisted at Cleveland.
Rev J H Miller returned from Thiel college Greenville today where he attended a meeting of the college directors of which he is a member and also the graduating exercises. The degree of Bachelor of Arts was conferred on ten graduates and a diploma was awarded Ethel C Heile who graduated in music.
Homer Rodeheaver choirmaster for Billy Sunday testified in Chicago in a breach of promise case brought by Miss Georgia W. Jay who seeks 50000. She alleges an exchange of Christmas gifts including a bathrobe for a set of furs and cross examination revealed discussions of marriage finances and a future together.
Miss Annie G. Park 17 daughter of Mr and Mrs Harry W Park Edenburg died at Shenango Valley hospital from severe burns after she tried to light a fire with oil. Survived by parents brothers and sisters Joseph Alice Harold Elizabeth Irene Randall and Mrs E C Hoover. Funeral Friday at 2 30 PM Edenburg M E church with interment in Park cemetery.
Annie Maslyk, 19, daughter of Peter Maslyk, died at New Castle Hospital Wednesday evening from burns suffered two weeks earlier while attempting to light a fire. She is survived by her father as her mother died about ten years ago in the old country. The body was taken to F C McGonigle's undertaking rooms. Funeral services will be held Friday at 8 a.m. at St. Mary's Polish Catholic church with interment in St. Joseph's cemetery.
William McIntyre assessor of Hickory township Mercer county is missing. He was last seen at Shar on about a week ago. McIntyre owned a large farm and is widely known.
City Solicitor Gardner ruled the referendum petition arrived too late to stop the special police ordinance from becoming law. The fight leaders weigh next steps, with some contemplating using the Clark act initiative to repeal the ordinance by petition and council action.
Benjamin Kernohan of Homestead was the second victim of a motorcycle crash at the Motordrome in Pittsburg last night. He was about 30, an intimate friend of Police Sergeant William McClain, and died shortly after midnight from head and other injuries after being struck by a car that sent spectators fleeing. One other spectator died instantly and ten or more were injured.
W. K. Nowling, appointed sealer of weights and measures by Mayor Tyler, says he remains on the job despite a court ruling on his salary suit. He asserts the court found him properly appointed and that the case failed due to improper procedure, not his status, and plans a new effort to secure the overdue pay.

Citizens in South New Castle express discontent over the school board not re electing Miss Jessie Gold after a petition for her return. Gold taught 75 pupils last term and patrons say she ran the school satisfactorily. Some board members opposed her for missing a C Rodgers eighth grade event, a reason locals deem insufficient.
A heavy afternoon rain drenched the city and county causing Washington and Mill streets to flood to the curbs. Autos plowed through water while pedestrians sought shelter in a nearby skyscraper as sewers overflowed and debris swept along East Washington Street. No major damage reported though telephone lines failed in rural areas and some fields were washed.
Long Beach police report Mrs. Fred Rudd, wife of an upholsterer, nearly decapitates two children then commits suicide after writing a letter accusing a prominent physician of ruining her life. Acting Police Chief A F Brown says the man named in the letter would be arrested.
Mrs Elizabeth A Vogus through attorney Thomas W Dickey petitions for a divorce from husband Joseph Vogus. The couple wed January 3 1906 and lived together until September 19 13.
The 56th general assembly of the United Presbyterian church concluded with harmonious debates and swift docket action. Dr Kyle declared the assembly closed after 4 to 5 pm. next session set for Loveland Colorado on May 26 19165. The state of religion report shows 192 221 total members with 168 109 in Sunday schools and Young People rising by 229. For the year contributions surpassed three million dollars with an average gift of 21.49, while theology students number 71.
Constable Nathaniel Williams sails to Harrisburg then Albany to arrange extradition for Mike Julian who was captured in Buffalo yesterday. The case stems from a December shooting at Clifton Flats that left Joe Borion hospitalized six weeks before his recovery. Alderman J H Gross credited for securing the arrest and guiding the prosecution.
Repairs at Emmanuel Baptist Church force postponement of the Saturday reception for Rev and Mrs Clifford Joshua and child. Welsh Congregational church members host Sunday services at the Emmanuel church location after the move. The Joshua family arrived today from Nesquehoning Pennsylvania.
