St Therese Chapel Ties God to Mall Commerce in Peabody
In Peabody Massachusetts the St Therese Carmelite Chapel sits on the mall’s lower level amid shops and eateries. The 40 year old chapel offers three Masses daily and confession as a spiritual oasis for shoppers. Six retired friars staff the chapel led by Rev Charlie Countie the 66 year old youngest. Locals note a contrast between upstairs capitalism and downstairs religion and call it a move to bring God into the marketplace.
