Judge OK's transfusion for Witness

Superior Court Judge Willian F. Ceccone ruled that a Pittsburgh mother of two, Susan Frye, who is a Jehovah's Witness, could receive a life saving blood transfusion. The decision overruled Allegheny County Common Pleas Judge John P. Flaherty, who had rejected the request at a five hour hearing. Frye, 24, remained in stable condition at Montefiore Hospital as doctors said her blood count was dropping but would not transfuse unless her condition worsened. The ruling reflects the conflicting views within the family and the courts on medical consent and religious belief.
