Secretary of State Cordell Hull advised President Roosevelt against applying the Neutrality Act to Germany after the Almeria bombardment. The president plans to reject calls to extend the arms embargo to the Reich, which officials say could threaten peace by provoking German resentment.
President Roosevelt arrived back in Washington at 8 20 a m from Hyde Park. He left the train shortly after and proceeded directly to the White House after his trip.
Harrisburg June 2 a new State Labor Relations board was to protect wage earners rights to unionize and bargain collectively. Gov George H Earle signed the McGinnis Labor Relations bill creating a Little Wagner Act and asked Senate to confirm three appointees to administer the act.

The Montgomery county grand jury refused to indict Joseph J. McGinley 69, former Norristown publisher, for killing his son in law Dennis A. ONeill who died from a severed throat. District Attorney Smillie sought indictment to speed trial this term, but jurors delayed until next fall. Mrs Eleanor ONeill testified she will stand by her father as McGinley remains at liberty on 25 000 bail.
Mrs. Margaret Johnston Bollard aged 79 of 528 West Washington street is listed among recent deaths. Also noted are Mrs. Jane Macklin 87 of Bessemer John E. Cranmer 70 of New Castle Frank A. Gibson 82 of Neshannock township and George W. Johnson 84 of Chewton.
Grove City College student Edward Scholl, 21, of West Elizabeth Pa., drowned at Slippery Rock Creek near Keisters after slipping from a rock and being swept away. Companion John Lowry was knocked unconscious in the rescue attempt but revived. A co ed swimmer saved Lowry, and Scholl's body was recovered twenty minutes later.
The House approves a $1.5 billion relief bill after a two week fight against earmarking. Insurgents shifted to cut the total. leaders thwarted attempts to trim by約$500 million and other amendments. Final vote 323 to 44 in a midnight session after Roosevelt’s pressure.
London June 2 the Archbishop of Canterbury refused to approve a religious wedding for the Duke of Windsor. Rev R Anderson Jardine who agreed to perform the ceremony tomorrow acted without consent after a conference with the Bishop of Fulham the Duke and Mrs Wallis Warfield will be wed under Fulham jurisdiction.
Gallup New Mexico June 2 Guy E Osborne 24 held under guard awaiting prosecution for murder of Truett Rowe a Justice Department agent J Edgar Hoover organized a national hunt for Rowe s killer Police Chief Kelsey Presley and Officer Les Mahoney arrested Osborne after spotting him near the city in cowboy attire He surrendered without resistance.
Tony De Laurantis a Hatsboro barber famed for huge meals faced a suspected loss of appetite after a Philadelphia exhibition. He reportedly ate twenty six squabs a pound of baloney a pound of veal three loaves of bread half a pound of potato salad eight apples two quarts of wine three pints of beer and small amounts of celery pickles olives and ham. He blamed the heat for skipping dessert.
More than 2500 workers were idle as new strikes closed plants in Ambridge and Beaver Falls. National Electric Products and National Metal Moulding tied up Ambridge operations, Moltrup Steel Products and Ideal Foundry in Beaver Falls also halted. Union Drawn Steel of Republic Steel and 285 workers last week were already shut, with picketing ongoing.
Fifteen year old Marian Ayres shot and killed her father Frank T. Ayers 47 chief boatswain's mate on the U S S Dallas at their mountain cabin near Poway California northeast of San Diego The sheriff reported the girl told Deputy Coroner Dave Gershon I don't remember anything except that I saw father beating mother and I couldn't stand it Mrs Frances Ayres mother walked five miles to the Poway general store to report the tragedy
