Flood Crest Near as Thousands Homeless in Columbia Flood
The Columbia River flood nears its crest in Oregon with 18,700 homeless in Vanport and areas along 120 miles evacuated. Bridges, yards and sections of Portland are flooded as the river rises toward a crest of 31 to 31.5 feet at Vancouver. One worker, Mike Skag, is feared drowned after a road collapse at Denver Avenue.

Baccalaureate Sermon Highlights 1948 Graduates
Rev J C Rose addressed the senior high school class on life purpose toward the end of the baccalaureate service in the Cathedral. Man Slain In Battle With Police In Pittsburgh
Pittsburgh June 1. Robert Jones 65 was shot and killed today in a gun battle with police who came to investigate a complaint. Mrs Rose Baker reported seeing a Negro dragging a white woman. Naval launch capsizes off Norfolk amid storm

Eight Year Old Eddie Eakin Drowned At New Springfield Dam
Eight year old Edward Eddie T Eakin son of Marion and Helen Eakin of 406 South Ray St died Sunday at 6 PM from drowning at New Springfield Dam.
