Will Restore Promotion Plan At Post Office
Washington correspondent reports that the Post Office will restore automatic promotions effective July 1, 1984. The economy act suspended automatic promotions for 1932 to 1934, and those years cannot count toward promotion. New Castle postal employees below the sixth grade with satisfactory service in those years will lose two potential promotions.

Promotions and salary progression under the economy act
A clerk or carrier promoted on July 1, 1932 from first to third grade with a $1900 salary on July 1, 1934 would not advance due to the economy act. His July 1, 1934 rating remains first grade, but after that date he may receive one grade increase per year for each year of satisfactory service, continuing onward.
