Human Services workers seek new two year contract
AFSCME Local 2902 at Human Services Center in New Castle, Pa, hopes for a resolution to a two year contract expired 18 months ago. Management enforced terms from their last offer, while workers press for renewal. An unfair labor practice charge has been filed with the NLRB in Pittsburgh as negotiations stall on pay and other terms. The next bargaining session is set for Aug. 13 after the last on June 25. The center serves about 200 staff with a $12 million budget and is a major Western Pennsylvania provider of outpatient behavioral health services.

Ellwood City hosts mock accident drill for IRT training
Ellwood City turned Lawrence Avenue into a mock casualty scene for nearly two hours to test medical response by military and local fire services as part of the Department of Defense Innovative Readiness Training program. U.S. Air Force Capt. Heather Edsall said the exercise serves as a culminating sign-off for Tactical Combat Casualty Care students with nursing students acting as victims.

Arlington Market to close after four decades in New Castle
Arlington Market at 726 Arlington Ave will shut down Saturday after more than 40 years in business. Co owner Cindy Fulena says the store, opened in 1984 in the same building as Tindalls Market, has been a neighborhood hub with family involvement and close ties to residents.
