Kennedy Johnson pledge to push broad 1960 program

In a joint statement Kennedy and Johnson pledge full energy to pass medical care for the aged housing aid education aid mutual security and minimum wage laws before Congress adjourns in August. They reject Nixon’s weekend truces and say campaigning will occur after the session ends. The pair warn Republicans against obstructionist tactics as they work late planning the August session.

Civic Leader Louis B Round Dies at 72 in New Castle

Louis B Round 72, longtime president of Pennsylvania Power Co, died after a brief illness at Jameson Memorial Hospital. Born in England July 16 1888 he moved to New Castle in 1904 and held numerous civic roles including Boy Scouts leader, Armory board member, zoning board chair, redevelopment secretary, and founder of the Greater New Castle Association. He is survived by his wife and two daughters with services Monday at Leyde Tanner Mortuary and interment at Oak Park Cemetery.

Haddad Appointed To Mediation Post In State Bureau

Samuel Haddad a former labor adviser for the U S Foreign Aid program in Iran and Libya was appointed mediator by the State Bureau of Mediation.
