Massive China quake rocks northeastern coast and aftershock follows
The 8.2 magnitude quake hit Tangshan near Peking early today, with Peking and Tientsin hardest hit and thousands fleeing in nightclothes. An aftershock of about 7.9 struck 15 hours later near the same area, causing further damage and fears of heavy casualties. Mother sentenced for abuse in fatal child beating case
Sue Ann Wyant, 25, of 127 Albarn Road, received 36 years in a state women’s prison after pleading guilty to three counts of assault and endangering a child in the death of her 3 year old son Douglas. Prosecutors said she locked him without food, tied him, and forced him to fight another child amid other alleged abuses. Leopold Krause, 25, also of 127 Albarn Road, is charged with criminal homicide and held in a psychiatric hospital with no date set for proceedings.
