Worst electrical storm of the season Friday afternoon damaged lines and transformers, cutting electricity in parts of Lawrence County. Pennsylvania Power reported multiple lines burned and 30 transformer fuses blown, with New Castle experiencing outages up to two hours. The heat surge preceded the storm, and damage also touched homes and trees.

The storm knocked out electricity in the northern part of the county including New Wilmington Leesburg and Pulaski for about two hours. East of New Castle suffered a two hour plus outage. Fred P Rugh 39 of Mof fatt Road R D 5 died instantly on Route 22 eight miles north of Lebanon Pennsylvania in a tractor trailer crash. His load shifted pinning him in the cab and a rear collision with Earl F Morder 32 left Morder uninjured. Workmen freed Rugh after hours and his funeral planned in this city with calling hours. He was a Keystone Lawrence Transfer broker operator and survived by widow Ethel Coutt Rugh, two children, a stepson, a brother and two sisters. One brother, Charles Rugh, died in World War II.

Wave Drowns 36 Girls on Japanese Beach
