Three men died when the car they rode crashed into a Reading crossing train near Stoyestown Somerset County on Route 53. Victims were George Pletcher Ernest Stauffer and an unidentified man en route to work on the Peoples Natural Gas pipeline near Johnstown.
State troopers led by Detective Capt. Arthur Keaton and Lt. Albert Warrelman raided a Maple Township gambling den early this morning, arresting 156 men and seizing about $40,000 in cash. Cash totals included $36,597 from 22 men and $2,452 from a safe. 30 others were detained for questions and released after bail.
